Ingredients

  • 4 piece(s) Apples
  • 60 g Whole wheat flour
  • 60 g All-purpose flour
  • 1.2 tsp Salt
  • 2.5 tsp Baking soda
  • 2.6 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 55 g Light brown sugar
  • 80 g Rolled oats (uncooked)
  • 57 g Butter
  • 60 ml Coconut oil
  • 3 sprays Nonstick baking spray
  • 40 g Dried cranberries
  • 30 cup Chopped walnuts or sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and rolled oats; if using dried cranberries, chopped walnuts, or sliced almonds, add and mix well.
  3. Add the butter pieces and solid coconut oil; rub in/cut in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Spray the baking pan with nonstick spray or lightly grease with a little fat.
  5. Press about half of the crumb mixture into the pan to form an even base.
  6. Core the apples and slice thinly; arrange over the base layer.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples to cover.
  8. Bake for about 35-40 minutes until the top is golden and the apples are soft.
  9. Remove and let cool completely, then cut into squares to serve.
